Friend --

After being displaced by high rent increases multiple times throughout my life, and with homeless encampments increasingly popping up around my community, I worried, at one point, that the tide of the housing crisis would eventually swallow me too.

But this housing crisis is not inevitable. There is no “invisible hand” of the market magically increasing our rents and pushing families onto the streets. There are real people and institutions responsible for creating this housing crisis, and there are real solutions we can win together that can fix it.

In my case, that looked like organizing with other tenants with the same corporate landlord as me, and pressuring my Wall Street landlord to eventually sell my home to a local land trust where it can be permanently affordable and in community control.

Organizing works, but it’s not our only tool. There is so much we can do to address this housing crisis if we elect candidates up and down the state who support our values and vision.Mail in ballots have been mailed out and if you haven’t gotten yours yet, you will soon. Vote NOW by turning in your ballot TODAY to start this election season off strong! <[link removed]>

My story is proof that collective action works. After years of battling rent increases and eviction threats, we were able to get our landlord to turn over the keys to our building and successfully win our home into the Oakland Community Landtrust, where I can now rest easy at night knowing I’ll never be harassed or threatened to be displaced again.

Elections can be confusing but ACCE leaders have done our research and created a housing, racial and economic justice voter guide just for you.  <[link removed]>

With a variety of important state propositions and candidates on the ballot, and with the threat of the MAGA Republican faction gaining more power, now more than ever it is critical we vote.

Friend --
