Members of Texas Congressional Delegation Congratulate U.S. Attorneys General Nominees for Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas

(Houston, TX) — On Friday, October 14, 2022, Chairman Al Green, together with Congressmembers Eddie Bernice Johnson, Sylvia Garcia, Veronica Escobar, and Lizzie Fletcher, extend their congratulations to the U.S. Attorneys General nominees for the northern, southern, and western districts of Texas on receiving President Biden’s recommendation. They issued the following statement:

“I am pleased that President Biden has announced the nominees to fill the positions of U.S. Attorneys General for the southern, western, and northern districts of Texas: Alamdar Hamdani, Jaime Esparza, and Leigha Simonton, respectively. U.S. Attorneys Generals’ integral role in the American judicial system includes, per to the U.S. Department of Justice, ‘upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting the civil rights of all Americans.’ As such, I extend congratulations to all three nominees for being granted this prestigious opportunity to serve our nation, as well as the great State of Texas. I look forward to their Senate confirmation,” Congressman Al Green said.

“After many prolonged and thorough discussions with the White House and prospective candidates, I am pleased to congratulate Jaime Esparza (Western District), Alamdar Hamdani (Southern District), and Leigha Simonton (Northern District) on their nominations for U.S. Attorneys of Texas,” said Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Dean of the Texas Congressional Delegation. “Each nominee is extraordinarily qualified, shares a passion for justice and the rule of law, and will bring diverse legal and life experiences to the job. I urge Senators Cornyn and Cruz to support their nominations, and I hope that the Senate will do their due diligence and confirm them in a timely manner.”

“Congratulations to the remarkable nominees for three of the Lone Star States’ U.S. Attorney of Texas districts. Alamdar Hamdani, Jaime Esparza, and Leigha Simonton have demonstrated they are the strongest candidates for their roles,” said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. “Today, with Hamdani for the Southern District, Esparza for the West District, and Simonton for the Northern District, the White House has announced nominees that reflect America’s diversity and history of excellence. I’m especially proud to see Hamdani nominated to serve the Houston region. A University of Houston Law graduate, his track record of transparency and accountability as a top law enforcement professional with the Houston U.S. attorney’s office is undeniable. I look forward to their swift confirmations.”

“I am proud to support the nomination of El Pasoan and former District Attorney of 28 years Jaime Esparza for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas. I have consistently sought to elevate El Pasoans to important positions within our government and am grateful to President Biden for supporting our community with yet another El Paso nominee,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “Mr. Esparza’s commitment to the El Paso community has been recognized by LULAC, NNOAC, TCFV, TGIA, and the TNOA, who recognize his tireless work and dedication to the justice system. With the bipartisan and bicameral support he has received, I urge the Senate to confirm Jaime Esparza as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas.”

“I am pleased to see President Biden appoint these accomplished lawyers to be U.S. Attorneys in Texas’ Northern, Western, and Southern Districts,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “There is nothing more important to our system of justice than having excellent judges and advocates representing the United States and the parties before the court.  I look forward to their capable leadership in this important role for our state and country.”
