"As far as I can tell, the only time Andrea Campbell has spent inside a courtroom is whenever one of her family members is arraigned on criminal charges." Statement from Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons on the AG campaign of Andrea Campbell "As far as I can tell, the only time Andrea Campbell has spent inside a courtroom is whenever one of her family members is arraigned on criminal charges." Oct. 14, 2022 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Evan Lips, communications director 617-523-5005 ext. 245 WOBURN -- Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons on Friday set his sights on the radical defund-the-police record of Democratic candidate for attorney general Andrea Campbell, who has only agreed to a single debate with Republican candidate Jay McMahon. "Jay (McMahon) has been a practicing attorney for decades and he knows Massachusetts state law inside and out," Lyons said. "As far as I can tell, the only time Andrea Campbell has spent inside a courtroom is whenever one of her family members is arraigned on criminal charges, and her past statements on crime tell me her first instinct is to find a way for them to get back out onto the street. "Massachusetts can't afford having an attorney general who is more focused on finding ways to let violent offenders walk free than on keeping law-abiding citizens safe from criminals." Campbell's record as Boston City Council president includes holding up millions of dollars in grant funding for anti-violence police initiatives and efforts to literally defund police. Lyons also pointed to Campbell's proposals to end "mass incarceration" and "eliminate cash bail" as reasons she stubbornly kept refusing to debate McMahon until a rare blast of critical media coverage finally pushed her hand. "Andrea Campbell's positions are indefensible outside of the radical progressive bubble she operates in," Lyons said. "At a time when crime is growing increasingly out of control and 92-year-old women are being stabbed nearly to death in public parks, the last thing Massachusetts needs is a social justice warrior assuming the state's top law enforcement post."
