Let’s talk about who’s in line to gain power if Republicans take back Congress.

There’s Mitch McConnell, who’d be Senate majority leader again — and who’s said a nationwide abortion ban would be on the table if Republicans ran Washington.

Backing him up, you’ve got Republican Senator Rick Scott, whose big idea is to sunset Social Security and Medicare every five years.

But even that’s not enough for Republican Senator Ron Johnson, who wants those programs on the chopping block every year. Every year, Washington would have to vote on whether seniors could keep getting checks in the mail and prescriptions at the pharmacy.

That could be music to the ears of House Republicans — who are already talking about using next year’s debt-ceiling deadline to hold the global economy hostage and demand cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

And they’d be propping up House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who’d be in line to become speaker and can’t stop kissing up to Donald Trump — a cowardly flip-flop from his private conversations about standing up to him after January 6.

It’s almost like they’re competing with each other to see who can paint the bleakest picture of what a Republican Congress would look like.

We have to fight back and make sure their dreams don’t come true. Elizabeth will keep fighting to protect and expand our Democratic majorities this November, but she can’t do it alone.
