Team,

It’s been four years since U.S. resident and Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered at the hands of the Saudi government.

We cannot and will not stop demanding justice and accountability for all who violate human rights and silence democratic voices, including repressive governments that systematically target dissidents.

Mr. Khashoggi's work holding those in power accountable is an inspiration. A free press is a cornerstone of democracy, and it’s our collective responsibility to protect it – especially in these trying times.

That's why I introduced the Jamal Khashoggi Protection for Dissidents and Journalists Act of 2022 (H.R. 9064) alongside my colleague Rep. Adam Schiff.

Our bill codifies into law the Biden Administration’s Khashoggi Ban, which sanctions perpetrators of extrajudicial repression. It also introduces the Khashoggi Amendment to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which would allow U.S. plaintiffs to sue foreign states for politically motivated attacks against U.S. residents abroad.

Friends, the United States must always make clear: Anti-democratic attacks will always be met with real consequences. Will you join me and add your name to become a citizen co-sponsor of the Jamal Khashoggi Protection for Dissidents and Journalists Act today?
