[1]Stacey Abrams for Governor

John,

[ [link removed] ]In a moment, I will ask you to donate to our campaign to create a
Georgia where opportunity is available to everyone — regardless of their
background. But first, I want to tell you a story about why it’s so
important to me to create a state where everyone is given a chance to
thrive.

As the daughter of a librarian, I’ve always loved reading and expanding my
vocabulary. This passion pushed me to enroll in AP English as a high
school Sophomore.

One day in class, I submitted a paper I thought was well written and full
of great insight. I patted myself on the back and expected to receive high
marks on the paper. However, when I got it back, I was flabbergasted — I
received a low grade.

Confused, I asked my teacher why I had received a low mark. She responded
by telling me that I used words that were too big and it made the other
students uncomfortable. So, she told me, I should simplify my language in
class and in assignments.

I responded in a way that only a high school sophomore could cook up: if I
couldn’t use my own words in her class, I would not use any.

Eventually, my parents were called by the school to sort the matter out. I
agreed to end my silent strike, but my parents made it clear: I was there
to learn and improve myself, just like everyone else.

Looking back on this incident, I can’t help but think that Brian Kemp has
the same mentality as my English teacher — that the only folks who get the
chance to grow are those who look, sound and speak like them.

John, this
story is why I believe in One Georgia: we all deserve the chance to grow
and thrive, not just some of us. And I believe we all should speak up, and
use all the tools and words at our disposal to make ourselves heard.

[ [link removed] ]And it is why I am humbly asking, John:
with just 4 days left until early
voting begins, will you help me build a Georgia where everyone thrives?
Chip in to power my campaign today.
