If we haven’t met, I’m Ciara Malone 👋 I recently joined March For Our Lives as its first legal director and want to share an update on our work in the courts. We filed an amicus brief in Angelo v. D.C. along with our coalition partners to support legislation banning weapons on the Washington D.C. Metro system and city buses.

If the court rules against us, guns would be allowed on public buses, trains, and station platforms — all of which are enclosed and, as any survivor knows, difficult to escape if a shooting occurs.

That means putting more children in harm's way, and many of them rely on public transit to get to and from school. Without a doubt, allowing concealed weapons will make these spaces less safe and lead to more preventable injuries and deaths.

Since the Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Assoc. v. Bruen, we are seeing a wave of legal challenges to gun safety laws that limit concealed carry in public places. The attacks are nothing new, but we are not giving an inch to the gun lobby.

Here at the Judicial Advocacy Team, we are proud to be part of this critical work to defend gun safety laws that ensure our children and communities are safe. Your support gives us the opportunity to fight back in court. We’ll keep you updated as the case moves forward.
