Next week is the final FEC fundraising deadline before Election Day. We know we make a big deal out of these official deadlines, so we wanted to take a moment to explain why this final FEC deadline is so important to Cheri Beasley’s chances.

After this FEC deadline, candidates who are on the ballot in November are required to report how much money they’ve raised. Right now, our opponent and his super PAC allies don’t know what we’ve raised. And we don’t know what he’s raised either.

But we know that they are going to have a close eye on this report to look for any signs of vulnerability. Inside Elections recently said “Republicans had hoped to put this race away over the summer,” but we fought back hard and this race remains statistically tied.

McConnell and National Republicans are extremely nervous about this race, so if we look vulnerable now, they could try to dump an absurd amount of money into North Carolina on a moment’s notice to take advantage of that.

That’s why this deadline is so important — strategically and practically. Every campaign, national group, and super PAC will look at these reports and make some of their final spending decisions — including us.

So, we have to raise everything we can and exceed our fundraising goals so we’re prepared to organize everywhere in the final few weeks of the campaign. And since messages like this are the number one source of donations to our campaign, we need to ask:

Please contribute before our final FEC deadline to flip North Carolina and elect Cheri Beasley. This race is in a dead heat and could decide who controls the Senate, so all eyes are on us.
