John, I'm forwarding you a memo from our political department
here at NARAL because I want you to see firsthand how we plan to win in
2020.
In this plan, we lay out our most ambitious electoral strategy ever — and
to show we’re serious about winning in 2020, we're investing an
organizationally-historic $34.7 million in our electoral program.
We need you to make this plan a reality. That's why I'm asking you,
John, to
help fund this historic effort.

Re: 2020 Pro-Choice Victory Plan
NARAL’s priorities for 2020 are defeating Donald Trump, flipping the U.S.
Senate, defending allies in the U.S. House, and seizing control of key
state legislative chambers.
We’re focusing on game-changer states where our efforts can leverage
multiple opportunities: winning Electoral College votes, flipping U.S.
Senate seats from red to blue, prevailing in must-win House races, and
flipping state legislative chambers. The strategy is to identify those
states where we can tip the scales and drive turnout up and down the
ballot. These include:
* Arizona, where we can defeat anti-choice U.S. Senator Martha McSally,
win a key presidential swing state, defend the pro-choice
representatives for the 1st and 2nd congressional districts, and flip
both the state House and the state Senate.
* Colorado: We need to hold U.S. Senator Cory Gardner accountable for
his deeply unpopular vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme
Court and win this key presidential battleground state. Gardner has
sponsored legislation to make abortion a felony, and he supported a
personhood law to outlaw abortion even in cases of rape and incest —
in addition to trying to ban common forms of birth control.
* Iowa: U.S. Senator Jodi Ernst — an outspoken opponent of reproductive
freedom — needs to go. We must also hold on to the gains we made in
the House delegation in 2018, build on the organizing done for the
Democratic presidential caucus, and keep that momentum for our
candidate in this important presidential battleground state.
* In Maine, we must oust U.S. Senator Susan Collins — who sold herself
to voters as “pro-choice” and then provided the final vote to confirm
Brett Kavanaugh; defend a crucial U.S. House seat; and capture a swing
presidential state.
* Michigan: Pro-choice U.S. Senator Gary Peters needs our help in his
battle for reelection. The anti-choice state House is ripe for
flipping. And Michigan is among the Midwestern states that we can’t
lose again to Trump.
* Minnesota is also essential. Reproductive freedom champion U.S.
Senator Tina Smith is running for re-election. We can beat Minnesota’s
anti-choice U.S. Representative Jim Hagedorn, who was elected in 2018
by less than half a percentage point and is sitting in a precarious
electoral position. The anti-choice majority in the Minnesota Senate
is fragile too. And Minnesota is a must-win state for the presidential
campaign.
The bottom line: We can’t do it alone. We can’t do it without a
substantial and, equally important, early infusion of resources. Four more
years of Trump would be catastrophic — even worse than the first four have
been. The way to beat him and achieve these other goals is for our most
dedicated supporters to invest in this plan today.
