Hey John — it’s David Hogg reaching out for a quick message.

Last week, I joined local activists at a get out the vote rally in Lansing, Michigan to talk about all that’s at stake in the midterm elections this November. March For Our Lives was there as part of the new Defend the Future coalition we recently joined, alongside Voto Latino, APIA Vote, Planned Parenthood and others.

This election is a choice between two futures. There’s the one we want, where everyone is safe and free from the threat of gun violence. And then there’s one that the people who cheered when Roe v. Wade was overturned and those who don’t care how many kids die in schools want.

It’s infuriating to hear politicians act like young voters are going to come to the rescue after they’ve failed time and again to protect our rights and our lives. But voting in this election is not about what we owe those politicians or owe to the system: it’s about what we owe to ourselves and the next generation.

It’s past time we go after the one thing these politicians care about: their votes and their power. If voting didn’t make a difference, the NRA wouldn't be spending so much money trying to stop us from voting out their hand-picked candidates.

We have the power to change the outcome — if we vote. I’m counting on you to chip in any amount to power our organizing efforts to get out the youth vote and elect pro-gun-safety candidates up and down the ballot this November.

No matter who we elect on November 8, our fight won’t be over. But we’re not choosing our bosses on Election Day, we’re choosing the people we’re going to target with our organizing.

None of us can transform this country alone. But all of us can do something to make a difference. Now’s the time to do it.
