So far, Gavin Newsom has been unable or unwilling (perhaps both) to do anything about California’s INSANE gas prices.
The easy fix to this solution would be what CA Republican Kevin Kiley has advocated for, which is simply suspending the gas tax until prices get back under control. Simple enough right? No more gas tax means cheaper gas for consumers.
But Gavin Newsom doesn't see it that way. His solution, wait for it, is ANOTHER tax. Newsom’s plan proposes a windfall tax on oil companies that would go towards a rebate at some unspecified point in time.
Not only is this needlessly complicated, but experts say this would backfire and actually raise consumer prices in the long run.
