Retired Teachers Need a Cost-of-Living
Adjustment*

I've heard from many of my constituents in the past few
months about the need for a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the
Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS)
retirees. Pennsylvania state law requires legislative action to grant
retired teachers a COLA increase- and between 1967 and 2001, the
General Assembly regularly passed legislation that did just that. But
for the last 21 years, there hasn't been any increase for retirees,
despite inflation continuing to rise.

That's why I've signed on as
a co-sponsor to Senator Katie Muth's (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks)
legislation [link 7] that would provide this long overdue COLA to our
retired PSERS members. Our educators, like all workers, deserve to
retire with dignity.

I had a wonderful time celebrating Homecoming with the

wonderful turnout and, as always, showed the true spirit of this
tight-knit community. Congratulations to the Titans for pulling out a
double overtime win over Franklin Park!

*LIHEAP Scammer Alert!*

The Pennsylvania Department of
Human Services (DHS) [link 17] is warning people about a door-to-door
scam targeting Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
[link 18] recipients. DHS says scammers are knocking on doors and
asking to see recipient's bills to ensure they're receiving the
correct assistance.

DHS and utility companies will *NEVER *solicit
LIHEAP information from recipients door-to-door! LIHEAP is distributed
directly to a household's utility company or home heating fuel
provider.

If you think you've been a victim of this scam, you can
report it to the DHS fraud tip line at 1-844-347-8477.
