But under one-party rule, the Democrats have used the government to silence their critics. When the Republicans earn back the U.S. House of Representatives, we will: Conduct rigorous oversight to rein in government abuse of power. Root out corruption and provide transparency to the American people. Hold the White House accountable for its mismanagement and overspending. This is our Commitment to America. Listen to my full message below. Learn more about the Commitment to America Policy Plan here.   Mann.House.Gov In the Office Voting Against Fifth Short-Term Continuing Resolution This is the fifth time that this Congress has passed a short-term funding bill, channeling billions of dollars to band-aid the Biden Administration’s failed policies. At a time when inflation is skyrocketing, the supply chain is still struggling to recover, and the livelihoods of Americans are at risk, Washington Democrats chose to push through a stop-gap funding bill rather than have a meaningful debate on our nation’s finances and pass a comprehensive, fiscally responsible budget. Congress must work to produce a fiscal year 2023 budget that provides certainty for Americans, cuts wasteful spending, and puts America on a path toward fiscal sustainability. Special Order on the National Budget There are better ways to solve our nation’s problems than by simply throwing money at them, but that is all that the Biden Administration seems to know how to do. In August, Speaker Pelosi pulled members of Congress from their work in their districts back to Washington, D.C. to vote on the so-called "Inflation Reduction Act," a $700 billion tax-and-spend plan chock full of Green New Deal priorities. Just a few weeks ago, President Biden announced his plan to "forgive" up to $20,000 per borrower in student loans - without receiving any approval from Congress. This plan will cost taxpayers more than $400 billion. Now just last week, Washington Democrats rammed through yet another stop-gap spending bill. Listen to my remarks on the House Floor below. Holding the Biden Administration Accountable for the Southern Border Crisis There have been more illegal crossings at our southern border in the past 18 months under President Biden than in 8 years of the Obama Administration. No matter what the Biden-Harris Administration claims, they have refused to secure our southern border. This failure to act has created a humanitarian crisis and emboldened cartels to engage in rampant human trafficking and drug smuggling across the border into our country, flooding American streets with fentanyl. My colleagues and I sent a letter to the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, Chris Magnus, demanding answers about their lack of action.   Mann.House.Gov Kansans in the Office Beef Alliance Thank you to members of the Beef Alliance for taking the time to meet with me.
