We must take action

Hi friend,

On 1 October the government will announce another rise in energy costs. With already inflated prices of every day essentials and soaring bills, we are all going to be feeling the squeeze.

But for a lot of people in the UK, this is much more painful than just 'a squeeze', and yet their voices are not being heard. Louisa, aged 39 living in Lambeth, South London is one such example.

** Louisa's story
------------------------------------------------------------

Louisa first got involved in Debt Justice through our community organising work with Together Against Debt ([link removed]) , and has since been leading the Lambeth group towards incredible local wins. Now energy costs are going up, she shares her concerns with us.

** "Everyone around me is worried about making ends meet"
------------------------------------------------------------
"Everyone I know is in the same boat, it's all I hear about right now.

Everyone is anxious and worried. Worried about making ends meet.

I'm already paying £2,000 of gas debt before the April rise, and it'll take four years to pay that off.

Food costs are going up, utility bills,
everything - I'm going to have to choose - pay gas one month, then electricity the next, but not both, it's too much.

Getting debt wiped off would take a lot off my shoulders, and would help a lot of people I know.

[The government] has forgotten the people it is meant to be helping."
Put pressure on the government, sign the petition ([link removed])
Louisa isn't alone. Up and down the country our communities are coming together and organising against these astronomical energy bills.

If enough of us come together, the government cannot afford to ignore us.

Will you sign the petition, and put pressure on the government to stop the energy crisis snowballing into a debt crisis?
Yes, I'll add my name to the petition ([link removed])
Thank you for reading Louisa's story. If you feel affected by anything mentioned today, don't hesitate to get in touch.

In solidarity,

Eva, Joe, Louie and all at Debt Justice
