Summer Newsletter Dear Friends, I hope you and your family had an enjoyable end to your summer. As always, it was hot and humid across Alabama, but I enjoyed the opportunity to spend the month of August meeting with many of you. I also enjoyed touring various businesses that make Alabama’s 6th district a wonderful place to live and raise a family. When you watch the evening news, see the rising prices at the grocery store, and open your most recent electric bill, it is easy to become discouraged about the direction our country is headed. However, there is hope when you realize that communities like ours are filled with hard working Americans trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. That hard work must be met with action in Washington, D.C. that ensures we have an economy that is strong, a nation that is safe, a future built on freedom, and a government that is accountable. That is exactly what House Republicans’ newly released Commitment to America is designed to do. After two years of total Democrat control in Washington, D.C. left American families with the highest level of inflation in 40 years, a depleted workforce, soaring energy costs, and an open southern border, it is time to provide real solutions. I encourage you to read our Commitment to America for yourself. I recently spoke with several Alabama news outlets regarding the commitment we are making. The interviews are linked later in this email if you would like to listen to them. Additionally, each time I return to Washington to work on your behalf, I take the stories and experiences from our congressional district with me. I hope you will take time to look through this newsletter to see the businesses and organizations I had the pleasure of visiting during the district work period in August. Also, I conducted many interviews on various news stories that broke during the month. Be sure to check them out below or listen to them on my website by clicking the link HERE. Please contact my office if I can be of assistance to you and be sure to stop by my Washington, D.C. office if you are visiting the nation’s capital. As we look forward to cooler weather and the leaves beginning to change, I look forward to sharing more updates with you. Sincerely, Gary Palmer In District Trussville Daybreak Rotary Club It is always great to see successful business groups growing in communities across Alabama’s 6th District. The Trussville Daybreak Rotary Club is made up of local business leaders, city council members, and concerned citizens in the Trussville area. We discussed securing our southern border, fighting inflation, and the importance of American energy independence. Thank you for having me. Thompson Tractor My staff and I had the pleasure of touring Thompson Tractor’s facility in Birmingham. Thompson’s ever-expanding footprint across the state of Alabama is an example of a business committed to offering customer support. We discussed the important work Thompson does and how they are seeing the negative impact inflation is having on small to medium sized businesses using their equipment. American Cast Iron Pipe Company (ACIPCO) American Cast Iron Pipe Company is not only a major employer in our region, but they are also an important component of our nation’s energy infrastructure. I toured their facility along with my entire congressional staff to better understand what they do and how they do it. Their rich history in the Birmingham area is leaving a mark around the country. Vulcan Materials Vulcan Materials is one of the largest producers of construction materials in the nation and is based right here in Birmingham. This business and their employees have a large impact on the economy of the area and their American produced materials go a long way in making us less dependent on China for critical natural resources. Birmingham Rotary Club Business leaders in our community not only represent the companies that we see and purchase items from, but they also represent families that are trying to make their way in a difficult economy. I was honored to share a Congressional update with them and hear their suggestions about how to best to tackle out of control inflation. In the News The past month was filled with many news items I think you will be interested in. I believe it is important you know where I stand on these critical issues. So, please read and listen to these articles and interviews at your convenience. You can also find them HERE on my website. Student Loan Forgiveness: President Biden’s decision to forgive at least $10,000 in student loans for borrowers was an incredibly insensitive decision that almost entirely benefits higher wage earners who attended college at the expense of everyone else including people who either paid for their college educations or never attended college. This vote-buying scheme further exposes the fact that Washington Democrats are not the least bit concerned that 61 percent of American households are now living paycheck-to-paycheck. Even Democrat economists like Larry Summers have warned that families all across America are struggling to make ends meet, including senior citizens and others on fixed incomes, and adding another $400 billion in federal spending this year will only increase inflation and make their situations worse You can learn more about my comments on the subject here: Print News – Yellowhammer News TV Interview – WVTM 13 News Overreach by the Federal Bureau of Investigation: The unprecedented search and seizure at the residence of former President Donald Trump showed a clear double standard by those leading the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These actions by the FBI further erode confidence in what used to be one of the most well-respected law enforcement agencies in the world and demonstrates the lengths the Biden Administration and the Democrats will go to destroy their political opponents. You can check out my interviews here: Radio Interview – The Jeff Poor Show Radio Interview – Alabama's Morning News with JT Radio Interview – Leland Live Print News – Yellowhammer News Drug Overdoses and Our Porous Southern Border: Fentanyl is now the number one cause of death for Americans age 18 to 45. The vast majority of the fentanyl making its way into our communities is via the southern border. As long as the Biden Administration continues to neglect their duty to secure our border, drug cartels will continue to bring these deadly drugs into the interior of the United States. I recently did a “Truck Talk” on this matter. I invite you to listen to it HERE. You can read my interviews here: Print News – Yellowhammer News Print News – Breitbart Commitment to America: Two years of total Democrat control in Washington, D.C. has left American families with the highest level of inflation in 40 years, children falling behind in schools, soaring energy costs, lawlessness in our streets, record drug overdose deaths, an open southern border that is compromising our national security, and a government that is increasingly threatening our civil liberties. Nearly 70% of Americans believe we are headed in the wrong direction, and the Democrats have no plan to address their concerns. However, my Republican colleagues and I have a plan. Our Commitment to America provides a framework for people to see how we intend to govern. It is backed by policies that build a strong economy, secure our nation, build a future based on freedom, and hold government accountable. House Republicans are ready to earn the support of the American people and our Commitment shows we are focused on addressing issues important to them. I encourage everyone to read our Commitment to America for themselves and see the policies supporting it. We have worked for months on this plan and will be introducing legislation on day one when we return to the majority in the House. This is not a “pie in the sky” promise, it is a commitment to get things done.
