News from Rep. Chip Roy

Dear Mr. xxxxxx,

As I begin another busy week in Texas and Washington, I wanted to pass along my latest update on what I have been doing to fight for you, Texas’ 21st Congressional district, and our country as a whole:

Not one more penny for federal tyranny:

Let me be frank: as I said on the House floor last week, the Biden administration is harming the American people. It's up to Republicans in Congress to stop them by standing up for America and using the House's power of the purse to defund these policies.

Republicans should stand firm and tell the Biden administration not one more penny for tyranny against Americans. That's why I am leading a group of 42 House Republicans in opposing any bill that empowers lame-duck Democrats to give billions in new funding to the Biden admin before the next Congress comes in.

You can watch my full floor speech by clicking here.

Supporting servicemembers and veterans' families:

I am pleased to inform y'all that my bipartisan Supporting Families of the Fallen Act (HR 3793) passed the House Veteran Affairs Committee last week and is now heading to the House floor!

This legislation will support military and veterans' families across the country by increasing their maximum life insurance coverage amounts.

Focused on the border:

On Wednesday, I published an op-ed in the Washington Times calling on the federal government, including Congress, to secure the border. Make no mistake: this border crisis and future such border crises can be avoided with policy changes.

Image

I emphasized that point during Wednesday's floor speech. Republicans must use the power of the purse to withhold funding from DHS until they secure the border - that's the only way we can protect Americans and migrants from the Biden administration's disastrous, cartel-empowering border policies.

Tuesday evening, my good friend Troy Nehls and I joined Fox News' Sean Hannity to call attention to the deadly effects of these policies. For example, Fentanyl killed 72,000 Americans just last year - more people than we lost during the entire 20-year Vietnam war.

I shared my message to every Republican in Congress: stop funding the Biden administration's deadly border crisis.

Standing up for taxpayers:

I am honored to inform you that the National Taxpayers Union is including my ARTICLE ONE Act (HR 2996) on their 2022 No-Brainer Bill list!

This legislation would cancel a president's declaration of national emergency after 30 days, unless Congress votes to extend it. I first introduced this bill during the Trump administration and I re-introduced it during the Biden administration. Congress must be able to limit the executive's power, regardless of who is president.

Here are some news stories about what I’ve been up to lately:

Interested in being nominated to a military academy?

For students interested in learning more on how to obtain a congressional military academy nomination, please see the information below and visit the website here.

Members of Congress may nominate up to ten military academy applicants for each academy who meet the eligibility requirements detailed on the website. The deadline to submit a packet and compete for nomination to the Kerrville district office is October 15, 2022.

Want to help serve the 21st District?

Students and young adults interested in learning more about how Congress works and serving the constituents of the 21st Congressional district are invited to apply for a congressional internship with my San Antonio district office.

Interns will benefit from a behind-the-scenes look into Congress and gain valuable experience in public service while assisting fellow Texans with federal agencies and supporting staffers. Stipends are available on a case-by-case basis.
