WASHINGTON D.C. – In the last year and a half, Democrat rule in Washington has done immense damage to our country. Crime rates are at record highs, inflation rates continue to climb, gas prices are skyrocketing, and the border crisis is wreaking havoc on communities across the country. That is why I joined Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and my fellow GOP colleagues today to introduce our Commitment to America, a clear vision for the future of our country. We will rebuild the greatest economy in our history, we will restore the American way of life, and we will renew the American dream. It's time for a change in Washington, and our plan will do exactly that. You can read more about our vision here. During Wednesday's Small Business Committee Hearing, I offered an amendment to H.Res. 1298 that directs Treasury Secretary Yellen to provide more information on the amount of COVID relief fraud that's been recovered. Criminals have stolen $100 billion in COVID relief funds, yet we still haven't heard answers from Secretary Yellen. You can watch my remarks by clicking here or on the image below. I had a productive meeting with the Texas Business Leadership Council this week to discuss strategies that keep North Texas businesses competitive. Thank you to everyone for stopping by! I also met with members from the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association, the world's largest mining association. I appreciated hearing the legislative priorities and concerns of the aggregates industry. I enjoyed visiting with the amazing women from Mary Kay, who shared with me what policies I can pursue that allow them to improve their sales in North Texas and across the country. The deadline to nominate a veteran for the Congressional Veteran Commendation is fast approaching! If you or someone you know resides in the 24th District of Texas and has served our nation, please submit completed nomination packets to my District Office no later than 5:00 pm on October 7, 2022. Visit my website to find out how! I am excited to announce the launch of the Fall 2022 Elementary Art Showcase. This is a wonderful opportunity for young students to learn about the three branches of government and showcase how they interpret the government through their theme-based artwork. The deadline to register is Wednesday, November 9! More information here. Hometown Hero of the Week Our TX-24 Hometown Hero of the Week is Lawrence Thorns, a North Texan who has gone above and beyond working with his church to supply over 230 sets of school supplies to North Texas students.
