Friends,

I am proud to endorse Ben Williams to be the next Ward 1 State Board of Education Representative.

Education is the biggest factor in all of the work and progress we fight for in our city. As an At-Large Councilmember, I work closely with our State Board of Education (SBOE) Representatives to craft and review legislation that directly impacts our students, parents, and teachers. To continue to make progress, we need leaders who are ready to work on equity across our schools, expanding mental health programs for students, and tackling teacher retention.

Not only are these the issues that Ben has committed to prioritizing on the SBOE, but they are the issues he has first-hand experience with and has been advocating for over several years. As a teacher in Ward 1 classrooms for nearly a decade, Ben has gone above and beyond to ensure students have access to high-quality, relevant, and engaging curriculum. He has organized with teachers and families across the city to fight for legislation to fund pipelines for teachers of color and remove barriers for Latino/a educators to enter the classroom. As a teacher, advocate, and coach, he has proven his commitment to DC students, families, and communities time and time again.

Ben has shown relentless commitment to engaging with Ward 1 residents and families, and he has the respect and admiration of students past and present. I know Ward 1 will have a dedicated public servant with Ben as their SBOE representative. Ben has my support and I hope you will join me. I am excited to work with him as a leader on the DC State Board of Education. Read more about Ben’s story and priorities at www.benforward1.com.

I hope you will join me in making the maximum contribution of $20 to Ben’s campaign. You can chip in here: [link removed].

My best,
Robert
