Dear Higb,

It's an important day.

This evening, thousands of Brooklynites will gather for the Brooklyn Democratic Party's annual County Committee meeting.

After years of dysfunction and disarray, County Committee members will have the opportunity to vote on rule changes that will make it easier for regular Brooklynites to have a voice in our party. The proposed changes are a crucial step towards transparency and accountability in a local Democratic party that has been plagued by corruption for far too long.

These common-sense proposals include reforming the party's voting system so those in power can't single-handedly control decisions by holding hundreds of proxy votes, and ensuring the party's Judicial Screening Committee isn't a secretive black box. You can read the full list of proposed reforms here. ([link removed])

If you're on County Committee, BYD strongly encourages you to vote in favor of these reforms!

Meet BYD's New Policy Caucus Chair: Madeline Knight!
We're proud to announce that Madeline Knight has been named the new Chair of BYD's Policy Caucus!

Having lived in both Manhattan and Brooklyn for over a decade, Madeline is a longtime New Yorker currently calling Crown Heights home. She has a Bachelors from New York University in media and communications, and is currently a 2L and CUNY School of Law in Long Island City, Queens. Since 2016, Madeline has been an Action Board member for Getting Out & Staying Out, a re-entry organization for young men who have been involved in the criminal justice system.

When she's not in school, Madeline can usually be found running in Prospect Park, exploring a New York City museum, or sitting outside with a book.

We look forward to convening the Policy Caucus soon, to tackle some of the toughest issues facing young Brooklynites!
