CSA's Golf Tourney raises $28k for families in need

"Many thanks,'' says Community Services Agency Executive Director Letycia Pastrana to everyone who participated in or contributed to CSA's 25th Annual CSA Golf Tournament, held on September 12th. "Your generosity netted $28,000 for our Emergency Assistance Fund, which will be a huge help for local union families in need as we approach the holiday season," said Pastrana. Seventy-two golfers turned out for the annual event last week. The tournament started off on a soggy note, but as usual, yielded an enjoyable day on the all-union Enterprise Golf Course, concluding with the traditional banquet at the Newton White Mansion.

1st Place winners were N. Bobo, G. Bond, G. Kidd, and T. Cropper. Closest to the Pin were Don Harvard, DC Dream, Gregg Kidd, and Nelson Bond. The Longest Drive was won by Elora Ifudu, Team Aetna, and Ernest Clover. photo by Freda McDonald

"It does make a difference," said Carl Page, a member of Glaziers Local 963, part of Painters District Council 51. He talked to Union City on Saturday while he was out knocking on doors in DC for the Metro Washington Labor Council's 2022 DC Labor to Labor effort to get out the union vote for endorsed candidates. "People are glad to hear that we are out canvassing and getting the information to them," Page said. "We're making sure that our union members are informed of those who are helping our unions with better wages and things of that nature. It does make a difference because it's information they wouldn't necessarily have gotten otherwise." The next DC Labor to Labor Canvass is this Saturday, September 24 at 9am; [link removed] click here for details and to RSVP. report/photo by Chris Garlock/Union City

Talking about why labor's [link removed] door-to-door canvass makes a difference for area voters: "You know, with their busy schedules (and) daily lives, sometimes things can go missing, and so us touching them physically is a big help."
