Friend, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals declared the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate unconstitutional on Wednesday. This opens the door to more court cases that will determine whether the ACA as a whole can stand -- and if right-wing judges do Trump's bidding and strike down the entire ACA, millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions will lose their health insurance.
This fight is personal for me. 325,000 residents in District 25 have pre-existing conditions, including my son. My opponent, Roger Williams, has voted over 40 times to deny them health insurance, and we are at this moment today because of a nonstop effort by his party to further line the pockets of the health insurance lobby.
It's essential we elect leaders who will fight for universal health coverage. I will be a strong advocate for Medicare for All, but I need your help to defeat Roger Williams first.

I announced my first run for Congress in 2017, after Roger Williams and the then-GOP House majority passed a repeal of the ACA. I knew that my story as a former Medicaid recipient, now a mother to a child with multiple pre-existing conditions, was a story that many Texans knew themselves.
We mobilized tens of thousands of new voters because we plainly stated our values, never apologized, and reached out to communities that long-time politicians had ignored. In the end, we only lost by single digits in a race that no pundit had on the map, and in a district drawn to be the ultimate GOP stronghold.
