We Need to Lower Costs

Friend,

Prices remain high. Earlier this week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released data on the annual inflation rate for August, showing prices are 8.3% higher than last year at this time. Whether it is going to the grocery store or receiving utility bills, our prices remain high. As we head into a Wisconsin winter, we must end the harmful policies in Washington in order to bring costs down.

In 2021, the federal government aggressively pumped stimulus into the economy. In the chart above, we can see how inflation has increased over the last 19 months. In order to get prices under control, we need to stop wasteful spending in Washington and unleash American energy. Our energy prices remain high for diesel and home heating. Each of our farmers in Wisconsin are struggling with the high cost of diesel fuel, leading to higher costs at the grocery store.

There are simple policy solutions to address inflation that Congress should be focused on. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said last week Americans can expect a spike in gas prices in the winter. Ahead of a spike in prices, we should be encouraging domestic energy production.

It's time for Congress to focus on the American people's priorities. I'm focused on bringing down costs, unleashing American energy, and keeping our communities safe.

Transparency and Accountability in Government

I recently received a Democracy Award from the Congressional Management Foundation for 'Transparency and Accountability in Government.'

Since I have held office, I have worked hard to provide regular updates on my work through listening sessions, telephone town halls, newsletters, and other modes of communications. I have made a commitment to being available and access to Wisconsin families.

I believe it is important for people to hear directly from me on the work I'm doing in Washington. It is an honor to be nationally recognized by a bipartisan group for these efforts. I will continue to provide regular communications with Wisconsin families and remain focused on working to lower costs and keep our communities safe.

If you'd like to read more about this award, visit my website here.

As always, if my office can be helpful for you or you would like to share an opinion with me, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office.
