Friend,

By now, you’ve probably heard that one of my colleagues in the Senate, South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham, has unveiled legislation for a national abortion ban.

I’m not an alarmist -- it’s just not the way I like to think about things. But it’s safe to say that if Republicans win the Senate this November, restricting abortion at the federal level will continue to be a priority that they push -- finishing the job that the Supreme Court started when they overturned Roe v. Wade.

Let me be clear: I categorically oppose Sen. Graham’s bill. Reproductive rights have been settled U.S. policy for nearly five decades, protecting women’s rights to make their own health care decisions with their doctors and families.

Sen. Graham’s legislation, combined with the overturning of Roe , would set women’s reproductive health care back by half a century.

We can't allow it.

I want you to know that I am 100% committed to fighting for the right to choose for Virginians and all Americans. That’s why I have introduced bipartisan legislation to create a federal guarantee of reproductive freedom.

Now more than ever, I need you with me. So I'm asking you to add your name to show your support for codifying Roe v. Wade into federal law. [[link removed]]

One last thing… if Lindsey Graham and other Republican Senators want to make these midterms about abortion rights, that’s just fine -- I think the women of Virginia and women all across the nation will have something to say about that this November.

Thanks for fighting with me,

Tim Kaine
