Friend,

Let's talk about Jackson, Mississippi.

After massive rain and flooding, the city's water treatment plant failed (again), leaving over 150,000 residents -- the vast majority Black -- with dirty, brown, undrinkable water.

Let me be clear: This climate-driven crisis is due to generations of failed leadership by climate-denying Republicans, especially the state's current governor, Tate Reeves. Time and again, he has flat-out ignored the very real impact of climate change on his state and refused to invest in desperately needed infrastructure.

Crises like these are preventable, but to keep the most vulnerable in our communities safe, we need political leaders who take the threat of climate change seriously and are prepared to act boldly to defeat it. Will you chip in $10 right now before our mid-month fundraising deadline, so our team can fight to prevent and prepare for future climate crises, here in Washington and across the country?

The science is clear. The type of extreme rain and flooding experienced in Mississippi is absolutely, without a doubt, exacerbated by climate change. But Governor Reeves recently refused to admit that human-driven climate change even exists.

The main victims of his shameless climate denial? This majority-Black community in Jackson, Mississippi, who have been without drinking water for weeks. This is a climate justice crisis that was generations in the making.

This type of climate-driven water crisis is not new, but Reeves won't even "speculate what [the solution] is." So let me answer for him:

We need climate-focused Democratic governors who tirelessly work to slow the worsening impacts of climate change while investing in much-needed infrastructure -- and who fight to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Will you be a part of our work to protect communities here in Washington and across the country from the worsening effects of climate change? Chip in $10 now before our mid-month fundraising deadline.

Thank you so much.

Very truly yours,

Jay
