The beginning of Kenyan’s story is not too different from many others in DC. As a teenager in the 80s, he saw first-hand the toll drugs and violence took on our beloved city. An opportunity, however, as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service changed his life’s trajectory, allowing him to attend and graduate from college - the first man in his family to do so - work for our tireless leader on the Hill, Congresswoman Norton, go on to graduate from law school, become a local prosecutor and then a civil rights attorney with the Department of Justice.

Being a civil rights trial attorney was Kenyan’s dream job. But he saw his neighborhood and others continue to struggle, despite an economic renaissance that took place in DC since his teenage years. He couldn’t ignore the feeling that he wanted to do more for the neighborhood and city that raised him, understanding the power of organizing and collaborating with city leaders to advance equitable solutions and create opportunities for those who faced the greatest obstacles to a better quality of life.

Kenyan’s activism in his neighborhood inspired him to run for office. As a Councilmember, he has channeled a community-focused passion into a legislative agenda around public safety, affordable housing, and economic inclusivity. If re-elected on November 8th, Kenyan will continue fighting to make our city safer for everyone, with more investments in quality affordable housing and our youth, seniors, and local small businesses.

Kenyan is on the ballot on November 8 to continue serving his neighborhood and every neighborhood in the District of Columbia. Chip in $25 today <[link removed]> and let’s make sure we have representation that prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of every community in our city.
