Hey John,
I wanted to make sure you saw this email over the weekend. The Preventing Suicide Through Voluntary Firearm Purchase Delay Act is a critical bill in Congress to address the ongoing suicide epidemic and will help save lives.
There’s still time to get involved — you can add your name in support of this bill and join us on Wednesday, September 14th at 7pm ET to learn more about it and what we’re doing to make sure it gets passed.

SUBJECT: Centering mental health in gun reform

Hey John,
As we mark the last day of Suicide Prevention Week, I want to reflect on the intersection between mental health and gun violence, because it’s so important.
Nearly 24,000 people die by gun suicide in America every year, and it’s the second-leading cause of death among people ages 15-24. It goes without saying — we cannot work to end the gun violence epidemic without addressing suicide by firearm.
The Preventing Suicide Through Voluntary Firearm Purchase Delay Act aims to do just that. This bill would allow people to voluntarily enroll themselves on a “do not sell” list — and would prevent them from accessing a gun, later on, to harm themselves or others should they experience a mental health emergency.
This bill could save millions of lives, John. Can you add your name in support of the Preventing Suicide Through Voluntary Purchase Delay Act?
It’s impossible to have a conversation around gun violence without mentioning the suicide epidemic. That’s why it’s critical we center mental health in gun safety legislation as well.
John, we need to show our House Representatives that the majority of people support this bill and want to protect their loved ones during a mental health crisis. Add your name in support of the bill here.

Elena Perez,
