In June, Colin and his House colleagues voted to pass the Respect for Marriage Act , which would codify marriage equality into law.
Every single House Democrat voted in favor of the law, yet only 47 Republicans joined them, with just ONE Texas Republican voting in favor of marriage equality.
According to Gallup, 71% of Americans support marriage equality – an unprecedented level of support. That begs the question: why would Texas Republicans hold firm to such an unpopular stance?
Because they care more about holding onto their power and appeasing the farthest fringes of their base than they do about doing what's best for the people they were elected to serve.
More than 90% of Americans support background checks on all gun sales , yet extreme Texas Republicans oppose background checks and are working to make it easier for anyone to get a gun — regardless of their criminal or mental health history.
78% of Texans oppose a total abortion ban , but our state has one of the strictest, most draconian abortion laws in the country.
Texas Republicans are out of step with our state. That’s why we cannot allow them to take more House seats and flip the House red this fall. The more Texas Republicans we send to Washington, the more they will try to stand in our river of progress.
You can help us stand against this unpopular extremism by chipping in to re-elect Colin Allred in November. You just need to follow this link to make a donation: actblue.com/allred.equality [[link removed]]
