Based on your votes, first up, we are featuring our Prevention and Outreach Program. Stay tuned to learn more about our Counseling Programs in the next edition! Hi! I'm Scotney Young (she/her)! I'm a certified sex educator and a social worker and I am the Prevention & Outreach Program Manager at Doorways. In addition to serving survivors, Doorways understands that to create a world without violence we also need to focus on preventing violence before it happens. The Prevention and Outreach Program works to educate youth, parents, services providers, and the community at large to make sure everyone has the skills they need to have relationships that are respectful, safe, and supportive. We offer free educational workshops for community organizations for all ages, and we also do outreach to raise awareness. Our educational programming is queer-affirming and uses an anti-oppression framework to cover topics like consent, comprehensive sexual health education, boundaries, communication, and more. Investing in Prevention Doorways' Prevention Program was launched by the $300,000 Moak-Fiske Prevention Innovation and Investment Gift. This extraordinary gift, the first of its kind in Doorways' history, was given by Kevin Moak and Judy Fiske Moak in honor of Kevin's mother, Evelyn Arnold Moak, and her lifelong passion for helping the most vulnerable in the community. Learn More News Urgent support needed to keep survivors safe Doorways is currently serving 18 families in our safehousing, well over our shelters' capacity, requiring us to use overflow hotels. As Arlington's only safehousing provider, Doorways is the only safe place these families have. However, having already exhausted most of our emergency hoteling funds in the first month of our fiscal year (July), we lack the funding we need to continue to meet this incredibly high need. We need your help to ensure we can keep survivors safe and sheltered for the rest of the year.
