Hi, Maura here.

I have a bit of an unorthodox note for you today.

If you’re like me, you probably get emails from campaigns and causes.

You might have already noticed, but we’re doing the whole email thing a little differently: I want to give you a peek behind the curtain to explain why.

You probably get plenty of clickbait, lots of “URGENT” subject lines, lots of big flashing red letters, and not always a ton about what the campaign is actually doing on the ground, what progress they’re making, or what the candidate is thinking about and prioritizing.

Here’s what we’re trying to do differently.

There are three main reasons we send out emails:

1. Our team has an update we want to share: I’m coming for a visit near you, our organizing team hit an exciting new benchmark, we’re releasing new T-shirts, etc.

2. We’re working to hit a goal: Whether it’s funding our free yard sign program or buying more supplies for our volunteers, we’ll ask you to help pitch in to power different portions of our campaign. We’ll always explain where your money is going and why it’s important.

3. I want to tell you what I think: I think it’s important you hear from me about why we’re running our campaign, where my values stand, and what issues I’m thinking about while I travel around the state talking to voters. I’m often on the move, so sometimes these might be short and to the point, but I think you deserve to hear directly from me.

Honesty matters a lot to me. It always has. We won’t ever try to trick you into donating, call you a bad person for not being able to pitch in, or send you clickbait. If you care enough about our campaign to read our emails, I think it’s important to keep you in the loop, and be honest about why we’re asking for donations and where your contributions are going.

Now, we realize it’s a little bit of a different strategy and some might say it’ll make it hard for our emails to stand out.

But we’re hoping that by giving you a real window into our campaign, you’ll have more confidence in what we stand for and where your money is going.

That brings us to today. With Election Day just around the corner, we’re working to grow our campaign more quickly than we ever have before — and invest in building our campaign in every community across Massachusetts. The stakes are high and I’m not taking any vote for granted.

If you can pitch in anything right now, I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for being a part of our campaign. I’m honored to have your support, and I can’t wait to work together to win this election.
