In the News: Law enforcement agencies, state officials react to deaths of 2 Cobb deputies killed

Community support is pouring out throughout metro Atlanta Thursday night after two Cobb County deputies were shot and killed in the line of duty while serving a warrant at a home in a Marietta neighborhood, according to authorities.

In an overnight update, the Cobb County Sheriff said an hours-long standoff had concluded and two suspects were in custody.

"Our hearts are broken here in Cobb County," Owens said. "It's a night of heartache for two families, two wives who have lost amazing husbands."

In the News: Queen Elizabeth II has died

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

She died peacefully on Thursday afternoon at her Scottish estate, where she had spent much of the summer.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

Her son King Charles III said the death of his beloved mother was a "moment of great sadness" for him and his family and that her loss would be "deeply felt" around the world.

In the News: Sweltering California urges conservation as power demand nears record
 
  Reuters:

California's grid operator projected record-breaking power demand on Tuesday and issued an emergency call for consumers and businesses to conserve energy for the seventh consecutive day to avoid blackouts amid soaring temperatures.

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) urged residents to conserve power in the late afternoon and early evening as the sun sets and the state's vast supply of solar-generated electricity recedes.
