Team --

The only reason I’m sending you an email like this is because of two promises I’ve made.

For most of my life, I never saw myself getting into electoral politics -- certainly not as a candidate. That all changed the day Donald Trump got elected president. As a Marine, I took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” With Trump in the White House, I thought about that oath every day. I knew I couldn’t just sit back and hope for the best.

Some of my friends and family thought I’d lost my mind, deciding to make myself a target for the most hateful, partisan attacks. There were many days on the campaign trail when I felt like they might have been right -- especially considering the nastiness that my kids heard about their mom from some of the most powerful people in the world.

The truth is, no matter the outcome, I’m immensely proud to have put my neck out there. I’m proud to have worked my tail off to hold people like Mitch McConnell accountable. I’m proud to have followed through on the promise I made.

But after I lost that election two years ago, I made another promise -- this time, to supporters like you. I vowed not to back down from the mission of putting country before party.

The last two years have been a terrifying test for our democracy. Our Constitution and the very rule of law is facing its most serious threat in my lifetime, all from a former president intent on getting back into power and willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. We got a glimpse of it on January 6th, and I think we all know that was just the beginning.

As I write this, there is a concerted plot in motion to put Trump back into the White House. It starts with electing his cronies to positions that oversee battleground state elections. Some of them have told us they’re willing to overrule the voters of their states. So-called “America First” candidates are now the Republican secretary of state nominees in battlegrounds like Michigan, Nevada, and New Mexico. If they succeed this November, so much about 2024 is already lost.

I’ve said it before: Our democracy is only as strong as the people willing to protect it. I made a promise to do exactly that, and I’m going to fight like hell to make good on it.

But, I can’t do this alone. Will you make a donation to fund our grassroots effort to take on and defeat Trump’s hand-picked candidates for secretary of state?

I’m proud of this team. Every single day. Thank you,

Amy
