Congress is currently working to pass a law called the Electoral Count Act. To keep things short, this bill will shore up our elections systems and the way Congress certifies winners of Presidential elections so that one party cannot subvert our democracy the way MAGA Republicans attempted to in 2020 – and it includes provisions Colin has long fought for.
But the problem is, the next attempt to subvert our elections won’t look the same as it did in 2020. For one, Republicans do not control the White House, which means the person responsible for certifying the election will be Vice President Harris instead of Mike Pence.
MAGA Republicans know that, and they are going to try and subvert the election at the state and local levels. Laws to protect against subversion are critical, but the best way to stop extreme Republicans at the local, state, and federal level from rigging elections is to make sure they’re not in office to begin with.
So, we must elect two more Democratic Senators who will get rid of the filibuster for legislation related to voting rights and allow us to protect our democracy. And we also must protect and expand our House majority and elect pro-democracy Democrats at the state and local level.
