John,
Next week, the DNC will vote on whether or not to ban billionaire-funded super PACs from Democratic primaries — super PACs like AIPAC's "United Democracy Project" that spent over $3 million on attack ads targeting Justice Democrat Summer Lee. It’s an amount of outside money in a House primary we’ve never seen before.
Justice Democrats have been pushing for an end to the massive spending of corporate super PACs and right-wing billionaires in Democratic primaries. The DNC must follow our lead and vote to end it. Can you chip in $3 to support our push to give progressives a fighting chance in primaries against the Democratic establishment?
Summer managed to come out on top, but other Justice Democrats like Jessica Cisneros and Kina Collins could not win after the deluge of corporate super PAC spending against them.
It should be crystal clear to the DNC: It’s time to end the influence of big money corporate super PACs in Democratic primaries.
But, the Democratic Party has shown its unwillingness to even speak out against the overwhelming super PAC attacks on progressives. In fact, party leaders like Nancy Pelosi have supported corporate incumbents like Henry Cuellar and Danny Davis who benefited from the corporate super PAC ads attacking Jessica and Kina.
As usual, we agree with Bernie. Here’s what he tweeted after seeing the news about the DNC vote:
We can’t afford to stop pressuring the DNC and corporate Democrats for a second. It’s very likely that the DNC may vote to keep allowing millions in attack ads against progressives like Justice Democrats. They’ll do it because we threaten their power and the political status quo. But we’re fighting back.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
