A new ad from an organization opposing Governor J.B. Pritzker’s reelection features a racist image and uses a likeness of Mayor Lightfoot in which her skin appears darker than it is.

It’s the ultimate dog whistle in support of GOP governor candidate Darren Bailey.

The ad warns that “CHICAGO VIOLENCE IS COMING TO THE SUBURBS” and shows a montage of video surveillance and TV news footage of various crimes in our city.

This ad is racist, plain and simple. Mayor Lightfoot doesn’t hide the fact that she’s Black -- she’s proud of it. So why do they feel the need to alter what she looks like to scare voters?

Here's the bottom line: These ads have worked in the past. They scare communities into the worst type of antiquated and bigoted thinking that we’ve worked so hard to defeat.

We can't let this strategy work again, not in Chicago.

Will you help us send a message that Chicago is proud of its diversity by making a contribution of any amount to Lori’s reelection campaign?

CONTRIBUTE

A leader’s job is to address the root causes of violence and find solutions that bring us together, not spread divisive and hateful rhetoric.

Darren Bailey has made it clear where his priorities lie. So let’s make it clear what our priorities are.

Thanks for your support,

Team Lightfoot

P.S. We're reluctant to share the ad because it's so bigoted and hateful, but we think you deserve to see the image of what they did to Mayor Lightfoot's face:
