It’s Congressman Colin Allred. Now that school is back in session across Texas, I wanted to reach out personally to talk to you about our teachers and public schools.
I was born and raised right here in North Dallas by a single mother who taught in Texas public schools for nearly 30 years. She understood the importance of getting a good education and working hard. And I would not be where I am if it were not for the great education I received at Dallas public schools.

Teachers shape our next generation of leaders. They help us find purpose and they allow us to ask questions and learn about the world we’re growing up in. It has never been more important to have caring and passionate teachers in our lives.
But, increasingly extreme Republicans in Texans are trying to take money away from our public schools and are making things more difficult for our teachers. I believe we need to invest in our public schools and finally pay our teachers what they deserve. I know teachers across the country go beyond their job descriptions to be there for their students every single day.
