Dear Friend,
Coloradans, and Americans all across our country, are working harder than ever. Yet many are struggling to make a living. Moreover, during the pandemic, many have worked through unsafe conditions to make ends meet for their families. As we celebrate Labor Day this year, we honor our hardworking neighbors and family members, with special hats off to all frontline workers, including first responders, teachers, and health care workers who continue to show up every day for the rest of us.
As Attorney General, I am committed to honoring working people by defending and protecting their rights under the law. To that end, we sought and obtained authority for a new law for the first ever worker protection unit in Colorado in the AG’s office. This unit, which we are building now, will fight wage theft and the misclassification of workers.
I stand with unions seeking to defend and protect working people in a range of industries in Colorado. That’s why, when the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 King Soopers workers exercised their right to strike, I visited them on the picket line to support their fight for fair wages and working conditions.
I am proud that, as a result of my commitment and actions to defend and protect working people, I have received the following endorsements , so far, with others expected soon, of unions representing Coloradans across our state : the AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Communications Workers of America (CWA), United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Colorado Education Association (CEA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), and United Steelworkers (USW).
On this holiday, I join with all Coloradans in celebrating each of you working hard every day to make life better for your families and communities.
Thank you,
Phil
