If Trump is good for one thing, it is uniting us. We know that the worst way to celebrate the 4th of July is a military parade for arrogant rich men.

If you are privileged today to have a day of rest and celebration with family and friends - or even are free to participate in an action, I hope you will take a moment for those laboring and imprisoned, those who aren’t free to take a day off or simply can’t afford to. Everyone must be free, and there is nothing like a summer vacation to remind us of the inequality we must overcome.

Growing up in Oak Park and traveling around Cook County I have seen firsthand how the system presses down on us from Day 1 simply because of difference in opportunity.

Independence day is freedom for all. Let’s continue working for it together.
