Please keep spreading the word about the March for Life taking place in Dublin on Saturday 17th September!
It is a particularly important event as it coincides with the Government’s 3-Year Review of the abortion law nearing its end.
We are asking families and supporters of all ages to join us for the march where we’ll unite with pro-life Oireachtas members to demand from the Government proper representation for the pro-life viewpoint at the decision making table, to make way for policies that will help reduce Ireland’s spiralling abortion rate.
There will be a terrific line-up of speakers at the march, including Autumn Lindsey, spokesperson for Students for Life of America, Rachel Mackenzie, who will share her personal story about how abortion impacted her life. Carol Nolan TD, Dr Brendan Crowley, Katie Ascough and Jessica Tear will also speak at the event.
Once again, please take note of the date and please encourage your pro-life friends to make a special event to be present on the day. It will be a wonderful family friendly event and will send a strong message to the Government. But to really pack a punch and show the strength of our commitment, we need every last pro-life supporter to be present!
There is a special social event planned for students immediately after the March for Life on the 17th of September. It will be super opportunity for young pro-life volunteers to get together and a chance to meet with the keynote speaker at the March, Autumn Lindsey, spokesperson for Students for Life of America.
We are also encouraging younger members of the movement to volunteer on the day of the March to help out and ensure everything runs smoothly. If you are a student or young volunteer in the movement and would like to help on the day and attend the social event afterwards, take a minute to sign up here.
If you are the parent, relative or friend of a young person that might be interested in helping out and attending the social event after the March, please let him or her know and point them to where they can sign up.
We are asking pro-life families to turn out in full for the March for Life on 17th September to ensure it is a big success. We want it to be an event with lots of variety and colour to send a strong united pro-life message to those in power.
To this end, we are encouraging families with young children and teenagers to create their own homemade posters to bring to the event.
If you or your family would like to be part of this effort, please let us know and we will send you a FREE poster kit and a few tips and suggestions.
In the meantime, could you help us promote the event in your area? We need your help to ensure this event is a great success. Could you take a moment to order some leaflets today to spread among friends, families or at your church gate? You can order a leaflet and poster pack instantly now.
We are also looking for volunteers to help us on the day. We will need assistance with handing out placards, blowing up balloons, face-painting and other tasks. If you can assist on the day, please let us know and we will be in touch.
We look forward to seeing you there and thank you for your continued support!
The British Daily Mail ran a story in recent days pointing out that ‘DIY’ at home abortions now accounts for more than half of all abortions in England and Wales. It also interviewed women who shared harrowing stories of what it was like having an abortion at home without any medical supervision.
Emily Price and Katherine Telby, both had ‘DIY’ abortions since the practice was introduced at the start of Covid in March 2020.
Emily, 23, a PR executive, contacted the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) when she discovered she was pregnant. Following a short phone conversation with a member of staff, she was sent the abortion pills in the post. She told the Daily Mail that she found it “a bit concerning that I didn’t have to prove I was pregnant. I could have been getting pills for someone else and they’d have no access to their medical information”.
She took the first pill when her unborn baby was almost seven weeks old. 24 hours later she took the second pill and started bleeding within 15 minutes. After an hour, she said the pain was so severe she was doubled up on the toilet. She said she became “terrified” and described how awful she felt as the abortion of her baby took place. She said: “People need to be aware this is not an easy way out. It will stick with me forever”.
Katherine Telby also had a ‘DIY’ at home abortion and described to the Mail how she would have liked to keep her baby but her boyfriend was not supportive. “My boyfriend said it wasn’t the right time. My heart said I should keep the baby, but I didn’t want to do it on my own and worried this pregnancy could also end in miscarriage”, she said.
Before the abortion pills arrived in the post, Katherine started questioning her decision and wanted an appointment with Marie Stopes to discuss her options but she said “the clinic was impossible to get hold of.” She tried for five days but was put on hold for about an hour each time.” In the end, she took the abortion pills.
She told the Mail: “I thought an abortion at home would be less traumatic. I was writhing in agony.” She said if she had face-to-face counselling, she would likely have continued with the pregnancy.
It is such a terrible tragedy the way State policy in Ireland just like in England denies women the opportunity to properly explore all the options before proceeding down the road of abortion. It is alarming as well that the Minister for Health appears determined to continue the practice of at home abortions in Ireland in a post Covid environment.
For our part, we must let nothing dissuade us from keeping the fight going to ensure that women are fully informed about positive alternatives to abortion prior to any abortion taking place. As more women speak out about their experiences, coupled with the pressure we bring to bear, we have to hope that things will change for the better.
In an encouraging development, a German court this week overturned a ban on peaceful pro-life vigils close to abortion facilities.
Silent pro-life gatherings in the vicinity of abortion clinics cannot be prohibited, the Mannheim Administrative Court ruled. The 40 Days for Life group had been banned from gathering to pray in silence near Pforzheim’s Pro Familia abortion counseling facility since February 2019.
“Every human life is valuable and deserves protection. I am heartened that we will be able to resume our prayer vigils in support of women and their unborn children in the place where we think it makes the most sense. It is a great relief that the court has recognized our fundamental freedoms,” said Pavica Vojnović, who with the backing of human rights organization, ADF International, brought the appeal in defense of the fundamental rights to freedom of religion, expression, and assembly.
Last year, a lower court held that the ban on pro-life vigils could stand. On appeal, however, it was decided that unfounded allegations are not sufficient to restrict the movement's freedom of assembly and expression.
The court emphasised: “In this context, the special significance of the freedom of assembly … must be taken into account, which, like the freedom to collectively express one’s opinion, also and above all benefits dissenting minorities, is necessary for a free democratic state order and in particular includes the right of self-determination over the conduct of the assembly …, the selection of the place and the determination of the other modalities of the assembly.”
This latest win for freedom of speech and the right to peacefully assemble will hopefully have a positive impact in other parts of Europe, including Ireland, when attempts are made to curtail or ban peaceful pro-life gatherings.

Our guest speaker this year is Professor Emeritus William Binchy of Trinity College Dublin. As well as being Regius Professor of Laws in TCD until 2012, William is an author of numerous legal textbooks, a former member of the Irish Human Rights Commission, a practising barrister and one of the leading voices in defence of the right to life of unborn children in Ireland since 1983.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly is expected to make a decision very soon on whether to end or sanction the continuation of telemedicine home abortions.
In a very distrubing new finding, 15% of women in the UK said they experienced pressure to go though with an abortion they didn't want to have.*
The HSE in Ireland recently acknowledged** that coercion is MORE likely to occur when abortions happen remotely.
Telemedicine abortion is anti-woman as well as anti-baby.
Take one minute to send an INSTANT message to your TDs asking them to urge the Minister for Health to immediately STOP telemedicine abortion now that Covid 19 measures have been eased in every other area.
