Another day, another revelation about how Ginni Thomas — the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas — tried to overturn the 2020 election.

We already knew that she’d been texting Trump’s chief of staff with coup pep talks. And that she’d been emailing one of Trump’s lawyers, who tried to get Mike Pence to single-handedly upend the election results. AND that she’d emailed Arizona lawmakers to try to get them to overturn the will of the voters and switch their electoral votes.

But now, we just found out she also pressured Wisconsin state legislators to do the same.

And Justice Thomas still hasn’t said he’d recuse himself from any more cases about the insurrection. He was the only justice to vote against requiring that Trump White House records be turned over to the January 6 House Select Committee. Records that might have included texts from his wife.

Add your name if you agree: Justice Thomas is a walking, talking example of how the federal judiciary needs stronger ethics rules, and we must reform our judicial system so he can’t keep ruling on cases about the coup attempt his wife participated in.

Elizabeth’s Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act would toughen up recusal rules, institute a basic code of ethics for the Supreme Court (can you believe that doesn’t exist already?), and strengthen judicial ethics across the board.

Her plan would also:

Ban federal judges from owning individual stocks and securities, commercial real estate, trusts, and other investments.
Strengthen restrictions on judicial gifts and privately funded travel.
Improve disclosure of judicial speeches and case assignments, while mandating the livestreaming of court proceedings and new judicial workplace surveys.
Close the loophole that allows judges to escape accountability by retiring from the bench, strengthening disciplinary authority for the Judicial Conference, setting up expedited impeachment procedures for federal judges, and allowing the public to file complaints against Supreme Court Justices — like all other federal judges — through a new Supreme Court Complaints Review Committee.
And limit the ability of courts to seal records that contain important information for the protection of public health or safety, often concealed at the urging of massive corporations.
