Anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination and bullying in schools is illegal, but we know it still happens all the time. LGBTQI+ students who are transgender, nonbinary, students of color, and students with disabilities face particularly hostile school climates. The Biden Administration has proposed a Title IX rule that would make it clear that anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination and bullying is unacceptable and must be responded to quickly and effectively. We have until September 12 to respond to the proposed rule.
Tell the Biden Administration: Schools Must Be Safe for LGBTQI+ Students
It’s really important that they hear from students, parents and family of students, teachers, and other school staff because those opposed to safe, inclusive schools have mobilized to voice opposition. There are also some things the rule needs to do better, like making it clear that misgendering is a harmful form of anti-LGBTQ+ harassment that trans and nonbinary students experience. Leave a comment in this portal and tell the Biden Administration why schools must be free from anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination and harassment. Use your own words, thoughts, and experiences.

Policies like this are extremely important for our LGBTQI+ youth, especially at a time like the beginning of the school year. These protections let students, family, and educators know they have rights and tell schools what they must do if something goes wrong. . Safety is the lowest bar we should be aiming for in schools.
