Helping Return $3 Million to Hoosiers
A core function of my office is constituent services. Any Hoosiers having difficulties with a federal agency should contact my office and my team of dedicated staffers can help. This often involves assisting with appeals when payments like veteran’s disability benefits and Social Security benefits are improperly denied. The size and scope of the federal government is not only discouraging, but often prevents Hoosiers from receiving what is rightfully owed from the government. This year alone, my team of dedicated staff members has helped resolve more than 1,300 cases returning over $3 million to Hoosiers. I will continue working to ensure that veterans, seniors, and all Hoosiers are not forgotten by their government.
Constituent Spotlight
One Hoosier whose Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SLGI) claim was denied in 2008 contacted our office for help to appeal her claim. Overwhelmed by the process, she had been strained financially for the last decade until my office stepped into help. My staff was able to help her through the process to receive the $423,900 she was owed. If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulties with a federal agency, my office may be able to help. My Statement on USMCA
After a full year of unhelpful foot dragging by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrats have finally come to the table on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Trade with our North American neighbors is critical to Hoosier manufacturers and farmers. Indiana is the most manufacturing intensive state in the country, and one out of four Hoosier manufacturing businesses directly export to Canada or Mexico, resulting in roughly 60,000 jobs. Additionally, 95 percent of farms in Indiana are family owned and they rely on access to markets. While I am still reviewing compromise provisions which were finalized last week, I am hopeful that both chambers can move to pass implementing legislation for the benefit of our farmers, manufacturers, and all American workers.
Pushing for the Permanent Repeal of Medical Device Tax
Once again we’re approaching year’s end and one of our most innovative sectors, the medical device manufacturing sector, is under threat. Years ago, Democrats and only Democrats voted to implement the medical device tax. It’s a tax on innovation; it’s a tax on American competitiveness; it’s a tax on American working families. I’ve seen the manufacturing employees who work at these device companies back home in Indiana. They take great pride in their work and these jobs pay far more than the median wage in Indiana. We must permanently end the medical device tax, which is set to go back into effect in January of next year. I am working to make sure this happens.
