Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention my upcoming telephone town hall focused on resources for seniors in our community. At 6PM this Monday, August 29th, I will be hosting a Senior Resource Telephone Town Hall featuring panelists from the Social Security Administration and AARP. This important event will provide fraud prevention tips for seniors as well as information about available benefits. To sign up to join our Town Hall, you may register at mcbath.house.gov/live. If you would prefer to join from a different number, you can do so by calling (877) 299-5762 at the time of the event, or you can stream the event audio by going to mcbath.house.gov/live. I hope you can join us. This week was the last full week of the August District Work Period, and I was privileged to spend time with some local students, visit with fellow members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation, and host public health advocates at my office for a roundtable discussion on maternal health. Here are some events I want to highlight: On Monday, I started the day with students at Wheeler High School to tour their robotics center and meet with members of Circuit Runners, Wheeler High School’s robotics club. This center was constructed to provide Wheeler High School students a space to learn STEM skills and competitive robotics. I was so impressed with the talent and innovative thinking demonstrated by these young people--and I was thrilled that they let me drive some of their robots, too! Monday afternoon, I was honored to join Morehouse College and my colleagues Senator Jon Ossoff and Congressman Hank Johnson at a press conference to celebrate the passage of the bipartisan Cybersecurity Opportunity Act. This law establishes the Dr. David Satcher Cybersecurity Education Grant Program, which will expand educational and employment opportunities at our HBCUs and minority serving institutions. On Wednesday morning, I convened a roundtable discussion in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services Region IV to discuss the maternal health crisis in America. Georgia has the second worst maternal mortality rate in the nation, so it is critical that government leaders and public health advocates do all that we can to identify solutions to improve outcomes for mothers and their babies. If you are a pregnant or new mother and need assistance, please consider reaching out to the National Maternal Health Hotline by calling 1-833-9-HELP4MOMS (1-833-943-5746), or you can visit their webpage by clicking here. Later Wednesday afternoon, I was honored to welcome representatives from the Consul General of Japan in Atlanta to discuss issues of importance in our local community and across the state. It was a joy to learn more about the partnership between our two nations and hear how collaborative projects are working to provide employment and educational opportunities for Sixth District residents while showcasing important Japanese history and highlighting their nation's impact here in America. Even though the August Work Period concludes next week, I want to encourage you to stay engaged with my office when I return to Washington. To keep in touch with me, please feel free to send me a message at mcbath.house.gov/email-me.
