Happy Women’s Equality Day.We celebrate this day to commemorate the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote in 1920.

While we’ve come a long way in the last 100 years, there’s still far too much work to be done. The Covid-19 pandemic has only made the gender inequalities gap wider.

However, we’re resilient. Women are resourceful, and we build communities of support, for our families, neighbors, and for each other.

In the months since the barbaric decision by the far-right Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade , women have taken action. We’ve seen a surge of women registering to vote and making their voices heard across the country.

After Trump’s election, we saw a historic number of women – and especially women from minority communities, myself included – run for office and win.

In office, women legislators consistently pursue policies that help families, promote environmental and climate protections, prioritize education, expand access to health care, and put their communities first. And we work across the aisle in pursuit of policies that support the public good.

We’re able to do that because our right to vote is the only right that specifically protects women’s voices in the Constitution.

So today, on Women’s Equality Day, I ask you to reach out to the women in your life. Talk to them about the impact our one simple vote can have – the butterfly effect all the way to the highest court in the country. And invite them to make their voices heard through the power of their vote.

Onward, together.
