What do we say to the voter who has no trust — at all — in anyone running for office? ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌

Friends,

There are some folks who don’t trust any politicians. None of them. Zero.

Great — let’s start there.

Let’s say you’re that person. You have zero trust in the whole political system and anyone involved in it, including me.

BUT you still care enough to vote. You don’t trust these politicians, but you’re still going to choose between them at the ballot box.

How do you do that? What should you be looking for, given how little trust you have in all of them?

My bet is it’s an agenda that works to increase your power as a voter.

And here are the two biggest ways to do that:

1.
End
gerrymandering.
Politicians
should
not
have
the
power
to
draw
their
own
districts,
because
they
cheat.
They
use
that
power
to
make
you
irrelevant
by
drawing
safe
seats
so
they
don’t
have
to
listen
to
you.
You
should
take
that
power
away
from
them.

2.
Major
campaign
finance
reform.
Politicians
should
not
have
the
power
to
raise
millions
of
dollars
in
dark
money
that
drowns
out
your
voice
and
makes
them
beholden
to
a
whole
set
of
interests
other
than
yours.
You
should
take
that
power
away
from
them.

And this point is just as important:

Any politician who isn’t in favor of ending gerrymandering or major campaign finance reform can only have that position for one reason, and that’s corruption.

Because there is no legitimate reason to oppose those reforms. There’s no good argument on the other side. That’s why you don’t see politicians on TV defending gerrymandering — there’s nothing to defend. It’s obviously wrong.

So if you have zero trust in any of us — including me — then act on it. Only support candidates who specifically commit to giving you more power as a voter, and listen carefully for where they stand on those two issues because it will tell you a lot about their intentions.

This election is a crucial opportunity to strengthen our democracy, and I’m asking for your support to get it done. Please support a campaign that tells you exactly how and why it is committed to giving voters more power over politicians. If you can chip in today, it would make a big difference. [[link removed]]

P.S. — By the way, I’m not new to this. The first bill I ever filed in the state Senate was to end gerrymandering (see below). If elected to Congress, I will immediately support legislation to end gerrymandering nationwide, as well as other pro-voter legislation (like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act ) that is long overdue.
