[link removed] [[link removed]]I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you, John, because today is a difficult day. Following the Supreme Court striking down Roe v. Wade , Governor Abbott’s “trigger law,” which will make abortion punishable by up to life in prison, goes into effect today.
This dangerous ban outlaws abortion from the moment of fertilization and carries punishments for performing an abortion of up to life in prison. Today, Texas Republicans have turned back the clock almost 100 years, but we must continue to fight.
This is a fight that we need to meet head-on until we live in a country where everyone can live their lives without the government dictating what decisions they can and cannot make about their own bodies.
I know it’s a hard day, and the road ahead won’t be easy. But we need to do everything in our power to protect women and access to safe and legal abortion. We need to fight like those who came before us, like the Texas women who argued Roe , and fight for the generations of Texans to come who deserve to live in a state that respects their fundamental rights.
I will always do everything in my power to protect women and abortion access. My campaign will cover the costs of travel for any campaign employee who needs to travel out of state to access health care. I hope other Texas leaders across industries will join me.
I’m dedicated to making our state and our country a place where women do not have to live in fear of being criminalized, controlled, or endangered by politicians. And I’m glad to have you alongside me in this effort.
