Minneapolis seems to think so.       John, You’ve likely heard the news – the Minneapolis school system has officially resolved to let White teachers go first before laying off any people of color. And no, old fashion ideas like merit and talent will not be a considered factor. This decision from our district's schools is one part of a larger trend of failure. Our current leaders care more about appearances than the actual success of students, and that's a tragedy. I’ve written an opinion editorial for FOX News on this issue, making very clear both the illegality AND the hypocrisy. As I say in the op-ed, "The Minneapolis teacher’s union negotiated a clause that would lay off senior teachers in good standing before junior teachers with more melanin. Simply put – this agreement is illegal and racist." How does laying off good teachers help our children succeed? How does it advance the goals of figures like Martin Luther King Jr.? Very clearly it doesn’t. Please read my op-ed and share it on social media. And if you’ve had any hesitancy about getting involved and voting for a change in 2022, I hope this move by our city’s schools is the encouragement you need to get in the fight.
