Celebrating Speaker Peter F. Vallone, Sr.’s

85th Birthday at City Hall

A very happy and blessed 85th birthday to my father, former New York City
Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr.! I’m incredibly grateful to Speaker
Johnson and the Council Members and staff who helped my family celebrate
this joyous occasion prior to Tuesday's Stated Meeting. It was a very
special surprise my family and I will never forget!

“As the longtime City Council Speaker, Peter Vallone Sr. made New York
greater and has been an inspiration to so many who followed him in that
important role, including myself. He is a true public servant and it was my
honor to co-host his 85th surprise birthday party at City Hall with his
family, friends, former colleagues and all the Council Members and staff he
influenced. Happy Birthday, Speaker!” said Speaker Corey Johnson.

Festive Fun in Douglaston!

The rain couldn't put a damper on the fun at the Douglaston LDC's Winter
Festival, where families enjoyed ice skating, rides, music and crafts.
Thanks again to Rebecca Gellos and the LDC for organizing another wonderful
event!

This Paw-liday Season: Adopt, Don't Shop!

With the holiday season upon us, many may be looking for a new four-legged
friend to join the family. For the next month, we will highlight two furry
companions seeking forever homes who are being cared for by local
nonprofits.

Please consider adopting this holiday season - and every season!

🐾🐾🐾🐾

Meet Prince!

A volunteer writes: "Prince loves to eat. So here we have a bunny who
really enjoys his food and therefore needs a lot of exercise. Which,
luckily, he likes, too. As well as melting into a hand that softly strokes
his most handsome head and soft ears. Prince is looking for a new kingdom
to reign, and after a few hours with Prince, I am sure you will happily
want to be his human servant. Come meet our royalty at the Care Center in
Brooklyn!"

Meet Tigger!

A volunteer writes: "Hello there, I'm Tigger, and people tell me I'm humble
as well as adorable. (Can't argue with that!). I'm 10 years old and I'm a
go-with-the flow kinda guy. I love to be around people and I used to live
with another dog (She's at the shelter too. Her name is Beba and I miss
her. Check her out). Before coming here, I enjoyed sleeping in a cozy nook
with lots of blankets. I may be older, but I still love to chase balls,
chomp on chew toys, gently nibble treats and play with dogs. (I've even
lived with a cat). If you have some room in your home, I'd love to retire
there!"

Meeting with the Queens Historical Society

Great meeting with Maria Becce and Queens Historical Society Executive
Director Branka Duknic to discuss the great work this nonprofit has
embarked on in the past year. Glad to hear the group will bring their
programming to a local school through the Council's CASA initiative!
