Dear Friends,

Instead of reversing course away from reckless spending policies that caused an economic recession, Democrats have doubled down and rammed through another massive tax and spend plan which will only result in higher prices for consumers and exacerbate the economic crisis.

The so called “Inflation Reduction Act” will not only raise taxes on hardworking Americans, it will result in fewer jobs, reduce lifesaving health care innovation, further squeeze out American energy producers while spending over $350 billion on radical “Green New Deal” initiatives, and further the economic recession. To make matters worse, the Democrats are using this bill to weaponize the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by hiring 87,000 new agents to harass and audit thousands of American families, farmers, and small businesses without probable cause.

This bill lays the ground work for the IRS to be able to snoop through American’s private bank accounts and track their financial transactions in the future. Simply put, more big government spending will not rescue us from this recession. Since Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the radical-Left rushed to get this massive tax and spend bill passed, they offered zero chances for the GOP Conference to amend the bill to remove dangerous provisions for our nation.

I adamantly opposed this legislation.

Ferguson in the Field
Last week, I enjoyed making several stops in the Third District where I received valuable feedback from many of you and learned more about the needs of our community.

On Monday, it was great to meet with Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams. We talked about Haralson County, their departmental needs, and the growing problem of mental illness in Georgia. I assured him of my commitment to back the blue and stand up for the men and women in law enforcement. At the beginning of 2023, Haralson County will be in Georgia’s Third Congressional District and I look forward to working alongside Sheriff Williams in the future.
After meeting with Sheriff Williams, I traveled to Waco to tour West GA Technical College’s Tom Murphy Campus. It was insightful to speak with President Dr. Julie Post and faculty, and see first-hand the great work being done to prepare students for success.
On Tuesday, I traveled to Barnesville to join the Lamar Country Rotary meeting to provide a legislative update and take questions from those in attendance. It’s always a pleasure to speak with the folks at the Lamar Rotary Club and I am proud to have this organization in our district as they actively work to positively impact our community.
After the rotary meeting, I joined State Representative Beth Camp and State Senator Marty Harbin in Zebulon to tour the new VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Pike County. Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, too often including their own health. This new facility provides a wide range of medical services – including outpatient, primary care, and mental health services – for veterans in Georgia’s Third Congressional District.

A Strategic Failure
Last Monday marked the one year anniversary of the Taliban taking control of Afghanistan. The world watched in disbelief and horror as Afghanistan was overrun by terrorists, and thousands of American citizens and hundreds of thousands of our Afghan allies desperately tried to get to the airport and onto a plane to safety. We now know that more than 1,000 American citizens were left behind to fend for themselves, and tens of thousands of our Afghan allies were abandoned to be hunted by the Taliban. Make no mistake, Biden’s poor leadership led to this dark and solemn day in our nation’s history.

Recently, Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee published an interim report on President Biden’s decision to withdraw from Afghanistan and the resulting chaotic and deadly evacuation. This is the first step in a thorough investigation into why the decision to unconditionally withdraw was made despite the conditions on the ground, why the Biden administration failed to properly plan for the results of the withdrawal, and what short-term and long-term impacts these events will cause. House readies vote on $739B Manchin-Schumer bill as progressive holdouts remain silent
Fox News
Much of the GOP criticism in recent days has centered around the bill's $124 billion investment in the IRS. Republicans say the money will go toward hiring 87,000 new IRS agents. "The IRS already disproportionately goes after rural areas, farmers, red states and low-income earners," said Georgia Rep. Drew FERGUSON, who, as GOP chief deputy whip, is working to ensure every House Republican opposes the bill.

Twitter In Uproar Over IRS Job Posting For Inspectors Willing To 'Use Deadly Force'
International Business Times
Congressman Drew FERGUSON, R-Ga., said the job posting was "clearly weaponizing the IRS to intimidate Americans, and exactly what the Dems' tax & spend bill would do." Hundreds of other Twitter users also joined the discussions about the controversial IRS job posting.

Without new antibiotics, the superbugs will keep winning
The Hill
The bipartisan Pioneering Antimicrobial Subscriptions to End Upsurging Resistance (PASTEUR) Act (H.R. 3932, S. 2076), introduced by Reps. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) and Drew FERGUSON (R-Ga.), and Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.) would help reinvigorate the antibiotic pipeline by investing U.S. resources more wisely. Specifically, the bill would offer sizable, upfront funding commitments to incentivize the development of innovative, high-priority antibiotics.

Scoop: GOP plans effort to sabotage Inflation Reduction Act
Bloomberg Government
House Republicans are planning to try to open up Democrats' $740 billion tax, climate and health care bill to a legal challenge after it passes, Axios has learned. Why it matters: The move is Republicans' way of showing their base that they're going to great lengths to kill the legislation, which is likely to be unanimously opposed by House Republicans. "I would be shocked if anybody [in the GOP] voted for it," said Rep. Drew FERGUSON (R-Ga.), the House Republican chief deputy whip.
