Dear John,
Violence and economic instability threaten large swathes of Latin America, where
the number of refugees and asylum seekers requiring urgent assistance has
surged. HIAS has led response efforts on the ground across the region, doing
whatever we can to help alleviate the suffering of those fleeing dangerous
situations:
Venezuela is on the verge of economic collapse – leaving access to food,
medicine and electricity for its people scarce. More than 85,000 people have
fled to Ecuador, where our teams have been working tirelessly to meet basic
sustenance and sanitation needs. We recently opened a HIAS office in Aruba for
the 16,000 displaced Venezuelans seeking refuge on the small island. And we are
on the ground in Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and Peru assisting Venezuelans who
can no longer stay home.
At the same time, political violence in Nicaragua and record-level homicide
rates in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have sent nearly 60,000 people to
neighboring Costa Rica and Panama. HIAS has been coordinating a regional
response to provide vital assistance for tens of thousands of these refugees.
These humanitarian crises are far from over, and it’s incredibly important HIAS
is able to expand our work with refugees in Latin America and around the world
as the global refugee crisis continues to grow. It’s supporters like you who
fuel our work, which is why we’re counting on you to come through with your
generosity today. Will you make a donation of $18 or more right now to fuel
HIAS’ work supporting refugees and asylum seekers fleeing violence and
persecution?
Please, donate $18 or more right now – any amount you’re
able to give – to help HIAS continue providing life-changing assistance to all
those who are fleeing dangerous situations in their homelands.

Thank you so much for standing with us,
Melanie Nezer
Senior Vice President, Public Affairs
HIAS is the oldest refugee protection agency in the world. Over the past 138
years, we’ve rescued and resettled more than 4.5 million people across the
globe. And today, guided by the Jewish history and values on which we were
founded, we continue offering a hand of welcome and support to refugees, so they
can rebuild their lives in freedom and safety. Just as they cannot do this
alone, HIAS cannot do this without generous supporters like you. Please make a tax-deductible gift of $18 to HIAS right
now, and every dollar will go toward critical support for refugees and asylum
seekers.
