The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

The House was not in session this week, but I was still working hard to advance the interests of the Fifth District. From finding solutions to improve Arizona’s higher education to holding the officials involved with the unprecedented FBI raid at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence accountable, I hope you’ll read below to learn about the important happenings from the week:

Holding Officials Involved with the FBI Raid at Mar-a-Lago Accountable

Last week, Joe Biden’s FBI raided Mar-a-LagoPresident Trump’s private residence. The FBI seized around 20 boxes of documents. The raid is considered unprecedented and the true reason or support for the raid remains unclear.

But what is clear is that the Biden Administration weaponized its law enforcement resources to publicly target a political opponent and I will not let it go unchecked.

This week, I co-signed House Judiciary Committee letters addressed to Assistant to the President and White House Chief of Staff Ronald Klain, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding documents, communications, and more information relating or referring to the execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago.

Our law enforcement apparatus should serve the American publicnot special interests. My colleagues and I will ensure that we hold these figures accountable and help restore trust in these institutions.

The letter may be read here.

Arizona State University Education Panel

This week, I moderated an education panel at Arizona State University (ASU) titled the Digital Enablement and the Future of Higher Education.

The panelists and I discussed how the deployment of new technologies, including social platforms as well as adaptive and immersive experiences, can increase access to educational opportunities and deliver superior learning outcomes in Arizona.

Digital technologies increase the scale and efficiency of educational attainment, from high school through graduate school, and Arizona is seen as a leader in the use of these technologies.

The panelists included:

Ara Austin
Director of Online Engagement & Strategic Initiatives
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, ASU

Kathleen deLaski
Founder & CEO
Education Design Lab

Ann Kirschner
President
Comma Communications

Raghu Santanam
Senior Associate Dean
W.P. Carey School of Business, ASU

I’d like to thank ASU and the panelists for allowing me to moderate this highly important discussion regarding the future of education in Arizona.

Meeting with the VA to Discuss Delayed Care

On Wednesday, I met with Joshua Stanwitz of Concerned Veterans of America, Bob Dalpe of Arizona Veterans Medical Leadership Council, veteran advocate Steve Cooper, and Ro Gonzalez of Valors Veterans Community AZ to discuss the latest VA crisis and long wait times currently faced by our veterans.

This is outrageous. Our nation has promised care for our veterans and the VA is failing to deliver that promise.

I’ve recently sent a letter to VA Secretary Denis McDonough demanding information regarding staff shortages at VA facilities in Arizona. That letter may be read here

I’m grateful for Steve, Bob, Joshua, and Ro's insight and I will continue to fight for those who have served our nation.

Definition of the Week

This week marked the one-year anniversary of President Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal. The Biden Administration abandoned thousands of American and Afghan allies, left behind billions of dollars of military equipment, and allowed the Taliban to regain control of the country. Thirteen U.S. service members tragically died during the withdrawal.

The Biden Administration has yet to be held accountable and take any responsibility for its failures.

Inspired by Joe Biden and Democrats’ false narrative, here’s the definition of the week:

The Biden Administration's Afghanistan Withdrawal (NOUN): One of the most significant foreign policy failures in modern American history.
